The Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles tasked Cyclone Design Communications with providing strategic support aimed at developing and optimizing their employer brand to help them deal with current recruitment issues.
Situated in prime locations, the Cégep’s campuses provide human-sized work environments, in addition to being high-calibre educational facilities. However, like many other establishments, it is also facing the reality of scarce talent, which has affected many business sectors.
Because its different campuses are spread out geographically, recruitment was a real strategic issue for this major educational institution, which has a total of five institutions located in Gaspé, the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Carleton, Grande Rivière and Montreal.

Validating and Strengthening the Employer Brand
To support its roll-out plan, the Cyclone team fully designed a wide-ranging survey, which was conducted among the staff at the different campuses to find out about their level of satisfaction with the Cégep and to better understand their attachment to their employer.
The survey was developed strategically by CDC, on the basis of the professions concerned and the competition, which had been analyzed beforehand. Our teams first created the survey, developing it in French and English (structure, writing, translation and layout). We then distributed it to the 600 or so employees and collected the data. Lastly, we conducted an in-depth analysis of the compiled results.
The operation was a resounding success, with a very high response rate and compelling results, allowing CDC to build on a solid foundation when designing the Cégep’s employer brand: "There’s a place for you in the big Cégep family.” The survey allowed us to confirm without a doubt that the Cégep is nothing short of a second family for its employees, offering each member their place in a relationship of trust and attachment that extends far beyond the professional framework.
In this way, CDC developed a strong and compelling employer brand that promotes talent retention and incorporates the many assets of the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles: its advantageous working conditions, outstanding natural environment, dynamic college life and the professional development opportunities that the school offers. These assets were highlighted in different marketing communication tools.

Genuinely Good People
To build on the strong employer brand and the sense of belonging that resonates through the big Cégep de la Gaspésie family, various communication initiatives were implemented to encourage potential applicants to come take their place at the Cégep.
The CDC team went to the Gaspé campus to conduct a photo shoot showcasing the employees of the different campuses. This direct involvement of the Cégep’s employees was a way of extending a sincere invitation to future applicants while highlighting, in a spontaneous and authentic way, the strong sense of attachment they have for their employer and the genuine camaraderie they share among one another.
Cyclone Design Communication will continue to support the Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles, not only during the launch of its employer brand, but also to help it broaden its reach in the coming year.
